Kerala: Suicidal woman adds rat poison to ice-cream; 5-yo son, sister die after accidentally consuming it

Kochi: A 25-year-old woman from Kasargod district in Kerala, mixed rat poison in icecream to kill herself, although it was accidentally consumed by her five-year-old son and 19-year-old sister who died in the process.
Varsha, a 25-year-old woman has been arrested and booked for homicide and abetment of suicide committed by a child.
As per reports, Varsha consumed a portion of the poisoned icecream and left it out in the open, which was consumed by her son Adwaith and sister Drishya.
Advait started vomiting later that night and his condition worsened that night. Following which the family took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
However, Varsha’s sister Drishya fell ill after Advaith’s death and was admitted to the hospital, where she battled for over a week and died on February 24.
Following the above deaths, Varsha was arrested by the police.
Varsha who did not experience any illness after consuming the poisoned ice-cream did not inform anybody of the suicide attempt. The police also informed that the family thought Adwaith and Drishya became ill after consuming the biryani for dinner from a restaurant.
The incident took place at Varsha’s paternal home in Kanhangad in Kerala.
Varsha has been booked under IPC section 304 “(culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and section 305 (abetment of suicide by a child).
