Min Suresh confirms 30% reduction in syllabus for SSLC exam

Mangaluru: Education Minister Suresh Kumar said that only 70 per cent of the syllabus will be set for this year’s SSLC examination.

“There is no need for students and parents to be worried about the SSLC examination. Only those chapters required for their higher education will be kept. We have already discussed this issue with teachers and parents in schools across the State,” he said.

“Many parents were not in a condition to pay fees of private schools this year because of the pandemic. The parents and private educational institutions should have deliberated with each other to resolve the issue. Since this did not happen, the government had to make a decision on fee reduction,” the minister added.

“Private schools have now gone to the courts protesting the 30% reduction in fees. We will find a quick formula for settling this problem. Those who have already made full payment of fees will have the amount adjusted for next year,” Kumar said.

Commenting on the travel restrictions from Kerala to Karnataka, he said he would talk to local authorities about that situation.
