Ever thought of holidaying in space? This can be a possibility soon with Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC) ambitious project of setting up the world’s first-ever hotel in outer space.
The 3-year-old company has created quite a buzz online after it unveiled details, images and videos of the celestial hotel which will be able to accommodate 400 people and offer unprecedented views of our planet for tourists and researchers.
The one-of-its-kind luxury hotel named Voyager Station is likely to be operational as soon as 2027. OAC has plans to begin building Voyager Station in low Earth orbit in 2025.
The celestial hotel will have individual pods attached to a rotating wheel, with tubes connecting the different areas forming an X, as if the wheel’s axle. The hotel will be replete with facilities like a themed restaurants, a health spa, a cinema, gyms, libraries, concert venues, Earth-viewing lounges and bars and rooms for 400 people. Crew quarters, air, water and power will also be available in the spaceship. The construction on the Voyager Station will begin in 2025 and will be operational by 2027.
“Voyager Station is a rotating space station designed to produce varying levels of artificial gravity by increasing or decreasing the rate of rotation. Artificial, or simulated, gravity is essential to long term habitation in space,” the official website explains.
OAC is eyeing to accommodate national space agencies conducting low gravity research and also space enthusiasts who want to experience life on space station “with the comfort of low gravity and the feel of a luxury hotel”. A trip to space might “cost up to $25 million”, it is said.
