Mangaluru: Ancient statue and ritual tools discovered from well in Balkunje

Kinnigoli: A 300-year-old statue of a deity and tools used in worshipping has been unearthed from a well on a farm belonging to a family at Muduguttu in Balkunje.

It was reported that many statues of deities were installed in this place, and the elders of the family perform rituals.

Over the years, family members settled in different cities. In recent years, the family performed the Jeernodhara ceremony built a place for the deities.

The family had invited Mundkuru Jarigekatte Kshetra’s Divakar Poojary for a darshan. During his visit, he told the family that they should dig back their covered old wells where they will find 300-year-old idols and other ritual tools.

Following his advise, on Monday, an old well was dug, and a statue of the deity and other tools of worship were found, said elder family member Mallika Shetty Balkunje.
