Udupi: Malpe port operations being hindered due to uncleared silt
Team Udayavani, Mar 10, 2021, 10:53 AM IST
Udupi: Due to uncleared silt in the Malpe port here from the past five years, fishing boat operations are facing trouble in easy access to the port.
More than 2,000 boats dock at Malpe port and many times the fishermen have to reach the shore by lining their boats and crossing over them.
Collected silt makes it difficult for anchoring the boats and boats have also been damaged by the slush collected around the silt.
Three years ago a dredger from Mumbai had dredged about half of the silt that had accumulated till then. However, the silt has accumulated again and no dredging operation was conducted later.
