Burger King UK received a massive backlash after their tweet on gender disparity in the restaurant industry was called out by the netizens. It was accused of using sexist trope as clickbait.

On March 8, Burger King tweeted, ” Women belong in the kitchen,” in a bid to promote their new culinary scholarship program.

As the tweet didn’t go well with the majority of netizens, the fast-food giant tweeted an apology and then deleted the original tweet.

It tweeted, ” We hear you. We got our initial tweet wrong and we’re sorry. Our aim was to draw attention to the fact that only 20 percent of professional chefs in UK kitchens are women and to help change that by awarding culinary scholarships. We will do better next time.”

Further added, “We decided to delete the original tweet after our apology. It was brought to our attention that there were abusive comments in the thread and we don’t want to leave the space open for that.”
