Udupi: In a special session held on Sunday, the town council here decided to cancel the license of the shop whose employees attacked a waste collector of the council.
Speaking at the meeting, Sumitra R Nayak, who presided over the meeting, said that the town council will always protect municipal officials and on-contract cleaning workers.
Also speaking at the meeting MLA Raghupathi Bhat said, “If anyone acts against government officials, then the action will be taken against them. Even if the culprit is a member of the council, party worker or my family member, stern action will be taken against them.”
“Two men have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody for assaulting the worker. There is no question of protecting them. I was involved in campaigning activities in Kerala when the assault took place. I immediately called the SP and concerned authorities and requested them to take appropriate action against the guilty. Opposition members of the council should have come to the session rather than give their opinion on the street,” he added.
