Bengaluru: The BJP leadership has begun its search for a leader who will lead the party after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
The BJP leaders, who are already building a second-tier leadership in the party-ruled States of Uttarakhand and Haryana, have reportedly had discussions about the party’s future leaders in Karnataka.
In the state BJP, there is a huge cadre of second-tier leaders. Among those who could be considered for the post of Chief Minister after Yediyurappa are DyCM Laxman Savadi, Dr Ashwath Narayan, KS Eshwarappa, Basavaraj Bommai, R Ashok, Prahlad Joshi, Murugesh Nirani and Jagadish Shettar.
The BJP national leadership has been working to make leadership changes in the party-ruled States as the election nears. Already, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has been changed to provide alternative leadership. The same effort is being made in Haryana.
BJP leaders are hoping that the new State will lead the party and bring the BJP back to power in the State in 2023.
More than 15 MLAs have already met RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat, who is presently in Bengaluru, on the leadership change issue.
