Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to set up a dedicated area for protest in the city modelled on Freedom Park in Bengaluru.
Officials from the district administration will hold a meeting with Mangaluru Police Department and the City Corporation to review such a location in the city.
A dedicated site for protests would ensure no disturbance is caused to the public.
According to sources, the district administration is considering a suitable place near the Kadri park for the site.
Presently, permission for protests is granted in front of the DC’s office near the State Bank of India. However, after the COVID-19 lockdown, the protest location was shifted to the front of the mini Vidhan Soudha.
Mangaluru tehsildar Guruprasad said, “Protests were being held in front of the mini Vidhan Soudha because of less traffic there due to the SmartCity works. However, this is not a suitable place for protests. The district administration will take action on an alternative place for protests as traffic is increasing in this area.”
