March 16 is observed as National Vaccination Day by the Government of India every year. The first official celebration of this day was on March 16, 1995, after the Pulse Polio polio immunization programme became operational.

The government of India seeks to raise awareness about the necessity of immunization against major viral diseases that we don’t have natural immunity against, through national vaccination day.

The theme this year is Polio eradication as well as the current COVID-19 threat.
