Mangaluru: The Mangaluru SmartCity project, which was rapped by the High Court for inefficient construction waste management, has decided to conduct a regular review of the projects many contractors.

Even though the High Court permitted resumption of the SmartCity project only a week ago, after having it stalled for two months, works have not yet begun for a number of reasons, including shortage of gravel.

As per the new rules set by Mangaluru SmartCity Limited, the contractor has to submit a “Rules Compliance Certificate” to the company every week. Additionally, SmartCity officials will visit the worksite every day to see if the rules are followed properly.

The Mangaluru City Corporation has identified land in Kunjattabail and Pacchanady for disposal of construction waste generated during the SmartCity works.

“SmartCity works have started in Mangaluru. However, there is a shortage of gravel for the works. Already gravel from the reserve is being used for the works. We will ensure that rules are strictly followed during the works,” said Prashant Kumar Mishra, Managing Director of Mangaluru SmartCity Limited.
