Mangaluru city to switch over to LED street lights by December

Mangaluru: Under Smart City Mission through PPP (public-private partnership) mode, all 65,000 streetlights in 60 wards of Mangaluru City Corporation will be converted into LED lights with a centralized automatic switching point system by this December
A survey of existing street light infrastructure will be completed by April 20
Making a presentation on LED street lighting at the corporation general body meeting here on Wednesday, Suresh Rathod representative of the agency engaged in installing the LED lights and carrying out the survey of the streetlights, said that already, 8,250 streetlights have been surveyed in the wards and by September, 50% of the work should be completed. The entire work has to be completed by December
He further said that the LEDs are energy efficient and consume 60% less power. The agency should install the streetlights within 8 months and would have to maintain the lights for the next seven years
