Mysuru: Unidentified miscreants have allegedly set ablaze a public library run by a Muslim man that had a collection of 3000 copies of Bhagavad Gita on Friday, April 9

The library was run by a 62-year-old daily wage labourer Syed Isaaq and had a collection of 11,000 books including Bhagavad Gita.

It is said that Syed was informed about the fire by a nearby resident at 4 am and when he reached the spot the entire library was reduced to ashes.

Isaaq had set up this public library inside a corporation park in Rajiv Nagar second stage near Ammar Masjid and every day over 100-150 people would visit his library.

The library had 3,000 copies of the Bhagavad Gita, over 1,000 copies of the Quran and Bible. He also had books of various genres which he sourced from donors. Isaaq would spend Rs 6,000 for the maintenance of the library and for newspapers.

A case has been registered at the nearby police station. However, this incident has not deterred Isaaq’s spirit, he has claimed that he will rebuild the library
