Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha, in a video message on Monday, has appealed to the citizens of the district not to ignore the present second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the second wave has caused a situation that is yet to come under control and the onus is on the citizens to ensure that it is contained soon.

“I request all of you not to organise or attend any mass events or gatherings and maintain distancing and wear masks whenever you venture out,” he added.

“Make sure that elders in your family are vaccinated as that will also reduce the spread of the virus, the DC further said in the video.

“If we ignore the present situation and if the virus spreads faster, then there can be a severe shortage of beds, ventilators and ICUs,” he warned.
