Zomato rolled out a new feature on its application that allows users to mark food orders as a COVID-19 emergency.
This new feature will be prioritized in the queue for the quickest possible delivery as Zomato will assign the ‘fastest rider’ based on locations and route.
Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato took to Twitter on Wednesday, April 21, to announce the feature. He informed that the new feature is available both on Apple iPhone and Android phones.
He further wrote, “Today, along with thousands of our restaurant partners, we just rolled out a ‘priority delivery for Covid emergencies’ feature on the Zomato app. This feature will allow our customers to mark ‘This order is related to a Covid-19 emergency’ option during checkout.”
He added, “At Zomato, we will prioritize these orders by providing the fastest rider assignment, and dedicated customer support in case of queries. Thousands of restaurants have pledged to prioritize these orders in their kitchen above all others.”

Reports state that all deliveries to such customers will be contactless by default to ensure the safety of the delivery persons and the customers. The restaurant on Zomata will be alerted once the user selects the option on his/her phone. In turn, the restaurant will prepare and deliver the order on priority.
These special deliveries will not have any extra charges and the ones who place the order will be paying for the meal along with any delivery charges in case applicable.
A big thank you to the entire restaurant industry for joining hands to serve our customers who need us the most right now. 🙏#RestaurantsAgainstCOVID

Although, Zomato urged its users to only opt for this option on their order page if this is a genuine emergency and the order needs to be prepared on priority.
The description of the feature read, “Treat this as an ambulance, and please don’t misuse it.”
