Mangaluru, Udupi: In the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi people gave a big thumbs up on the first day of the lockdown as no untoward incident were reported.

In Mangaluru city, shoppers were few on Wednesday morning as most of the residents had made purchases on Tuesday on the eve of the lockdown.

Vehicular traffic was also minimal and the streets were devoid of the usual shopping crowd.

After the 10 am relaxation time was over more police officials were seen in the 54 check posts set around the city.

It was reported that about 1,000 police personnel are deployed around the city to manage the lockdown.

In Udupi, slightly more crowd than in Mangaluru was noticed.

People tended to stay beyond the 10 am relaxation and were warned and sent back by the police officials patrolling around the town.

Police officials held surprise visits to many of the markets in the town and were seen allowing only those to continue on their travel if they were going to ATMs, vaccination centres, and availing other essential services after producing proper documents.
