How many more should die due to lack of oxygen? K’taka HC asks Centre

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday questioned the Central government on the issue of increasing the medical oxygen quota allocated to the State by asking how many people should die before the quota is increased?

The High Court also warned that if the Centre does not provide a clear answer by 10:30 am on Wednesday, then it will issue an order against it.

A divisional bench of the High Court made these statements while hearing several public interest litigations for controlling the spread of the COVID-19 infection and its treatment.

The lawyer representing the Centre said that oxygen supply is not determined by a single department and sought more time to provide clear information on the issue.

The bench also said that the deaths at the Chamarajanagar hospital due to lack of oxygen is a case worthy of judicial inquiry.
