Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has ordered the enforcement of more stringent restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus infection.
A meeting in this regard was convened by district in-charge minister Srinivas Kota Poojary at the DC office here on Thursday, May 6.
In the meeting, it has been decided to reduce the lockdown relaxation time for the purchase of essentials. Accordingly, people can shop for essentials from 6 am – 9 am and will be allowed to purchase medical supplies from the nearest pharmacies.
Presently essential shops are allowed to operate from 6 am-12 pm.
Srinivas Kota Poojary with this regard said, “The Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the district despite imposing lockdown. This is because the public is not adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines and are wandering in public places,” he said.
“People should come out to buy essential commodities only when it is necessary. Else, they should remain in their homes. We have decided to implement a curfew on weekends on Saturday and Sunday. On these days groceries shops will not be allowed to open. Only Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS), milk shops, vegetable shops, and pushcart vendors selling fruits and vegetables will be allowed,” the minister added.
