K’taka districts that may surpass B’luru Urban in COVID-19 cases

Many districts in the State may soon outnumber the State capital in the number of reported active COVID-19 cases.
Bengaluru Urban district accounted for more than 70 per cent of cases in the State till the end of April.
However, three districts – Mysuru, Tumakuru and Kalaburagi – are recording a huge surge along with Hassan and Belagavi.
As per reports from the COVID-19 technical advisory committee of the State, most of the cases in these districts have spread from Bengaluru during the Yugadi festival and other village festivals when there was migration from the city to rural areas.
Additionally, as there was no restriction on inter-State movement many of those infected with the virus arrived in the State from places such as Delhi and Maharashtra which reported the initial surges in the second wave of the pandemic.
The Committee is worried that further infection surges in these districts might overburden the meagre healthcare infrastructure available in them.
