Mangaluru: A naval helicopter has arrived here from Kochi and started an operation to rescue the 9 labourers stranded on the tugboat ‘Coromandal’ in the sea off Kaup for the past 40 hours.

Naval officials who arrived in the helicopter are being provided with information by the Coast Guard and the district administration for the rescue operation.

The tugboat, anchored at NMPT port, was carried away by the strong waves due to Cyclone Tauktae.

Later it crashed and stuck to a sea rock about 15 nautical miles from Kaup beach.
