Mulabaagilu: A day after a man was married off to his Divyang nieces at Vegamadagu within Thimmaravuthanahalli gram panchayat in the taluk here, a case has been registered against seven people by the local Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) for child marriage.

The man Umapati was married off to his nieces Supriya, who is mute, and Lalita, who is deaf.

It was reported that Lalita was adamant that she would marry only after her sister Supriya’s marriage. Hence both were married to their uncle.

The photos of their marriage and the wedding invitation card went viral on social media.

However, reports later emerged that Lalita is underaged.

Hence a team of police officials along with the CDPO went to her house and asked for her identification documents which confirmed that she is 16 years old.

Accordingly, a case was registered against Umapati, his parents, Lalita’s parents, the printer of the wedding’s invitation cards and the priest of the temple where the marriage was held.

All seven are presently absconding and a team of police officials has been formed to search them.
