Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath on Wednesday said that the construction of a 500 LPM capacity on-site oxygen generator unit at the Wenlock Hospital will begin from May 20.
Speaking after visiting the site where the plant will come up at the hospital the MLA said the State’s Health and Family Welfare Department had approved the installation of oxygen-producing plants with PSA technology in 10 district hospitals of the State and Wenlock is one of them.
“Already, with the special efforts of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, the construction of a 2KL capacity oxygen plant at Wenlock has begun which is being funded by MRPL. So, 2 oxygen plants will be available to the people of the district soon,” he added.
“Earlier around 2.5KL of oxygen was sufficient at the Wenlock Hospital every day. However, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic the demand for medical oxygen has increased and presently 5KL of medical oxygen is required every day,” Kamat said.
