Rs 2 for 15 kg tomatoes; farmer dumps produce on roadside

Bengaluru: As vegetable rates crashed a farmer was forced to dump a large batch of tomatoes and other produce on the roads.
In the video being shared widely on social media, a stretch of the road here was strewn with tomatoes on both sides.
Farmers say that they are under huge loss as they are getting Rs 2 for 15 kilos and it does not even cover the transport cost.
The number of vegetable trucks going from Karnataka to Kerala and Tamil Nadu has dwindled and the farmers are finding it difficult to find a local market for the crop.
It was also reported that the narrow window of 6 am to 10 am creates a lot of anxiety among the purchasers and the farmers and rates tend to crash from 8.30 am onwards when there are no buyers for the produce at the market rate.
Many a time farmers beg and plead with customers to buy the produce at whatever rate.
