Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation has decided not to collect garbage from those houses that do not segregate dry and wet waste.
Such a rule already exists but the Corporation never adequately implemented it.
However, after the State’s Pollution Control Board issued a notification following the disaster at Pachanady that it will be monitoring whether the rule is being followed, the Corporation decided to strictly enforce this rule.
Household garbage must be disposed of in four categories – dry waste, wet waste, sanitary waste and COVID waste.
Wet waste is collected on all days except on Fridays while sanitary and COVID waste is collected on all days as per certain regulations.
Municipal Commissioner of the Corporation Akshay Sridhar said that apart from the rule on waste segregation a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed if waste is disposed of or thrown on roadsides.
