Udupi: The State government has ordered a ban on fishing using traditional and mechanised boats for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.
The order comes after the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying issued orders to all coastal States to impose a ban on fishing in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Fishing boats and fishermen who violate the government order are liable to penalties imposed under the Karnataka Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1986 and will not be entitled to subsidy on diesel for a period of one year.
