Mangaluru: The demolition works of the 50-year-old Central Market building begun today.
A new multi-storied Smart Market complex will be constructed in the same place under the Mangaluru Smart City project within the next three years.
Speaking during the start of the demolition Municipal Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said that the State government granted permission for the demolition on Tuesday and added that the works were delayed due to cases in the High Court.
However, a few Congress workers protested the demolition stating that adequate time was not granted to the traders to empty their shop before the demolition.
