Instagram to give out monetary incentives to those who create reels

As Tik Tok got banned in multiple countries, Instagram launched its own version of short video sharing feature called ‘reels’ as an alternative to Tik Tok.

Instagram is currently working on a “Bonuses” feature that will allow the creators to earn money by making Reels.

The feature was first spotted by an independent app developer Alessandro Paluzzi.

In one of the screenshots shared by the developer, it confirms that the “Bonuses” option will be available for creators, and not for regular users.  The Facebook-owned company is yet to reveal the criteria for it but the rumors suggest that the monetisation option will be accessible to those who have good upload volume or audience engagement metrics.

This feature is under development and is yet to officially confirm its existence.  The company will soon launch it as a new “Insights” feature was recently added to offer Reels users a better clarity on their performance.

TikTok had a similar programme that allowed creators to earn lakhs of rupees and before the ban in 2020, TikTok had more than 20 crore userbase in India.

With the new feature, Instagram believes it can add more users to its fold and also retain the current users from straying to rival platforms.
