Karnataka reports first cases of Black Fungus in children

Bengaluru: A 14-year-old girl at Ballari and an 11-year-old boy at Chitradurga district were reported to have been infected with mucormycosis or Black Fungus.
These are the first cases of the fungal infection reported in children in the State.
The infection has spread to the eyes and brains of both the children and both were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
They are set to lose eyesight in one of their eyes because of the infection which will then be surgically removed.
Both the children have been brought to Bengaluru and are being treated at Bowring Hospital and NIMHANS.
