Karkala: Karkala block Congress leader Shubhad Rao slammed BJP MLA Sunil Kumar for flouting Covid-19 safety protocols by organising public programmes and urged Udupi deputy commissioner to look into the issue.
Pointing out that several villages in the taluk have been sealed down, Rao said that MLA Sunil Kumar is putting people at risk of contracting infection by holding programmes to distribute okra seeds.
He further alleged that the MLA was trying to gain political mileage for the upcoming taluk and zilla panchayat elections.
According to Rao, over 100 beneficiaries attended the programme Sunil Kumar organized at taluk panchayat premises. The tahsildar and other officials were also present at this programme, he said.
In his complaint, Rao questioned if rules and regulations differ for MLA Sunil Kumar and for the common people.
Further he attacked the MLA for not focusing on resolving the Covid-19 related issues in the district and organising programmes concerning Karkala brand okra seeds.
He can distribute the seeds from house to house if he wants. But public programmes in this connection are not appropriate,” Rao said while urging the deputy commissioner to take suitable action against him.
