Now that when the internet was finally done with nature’s cereal, another food trend has surfaced on the internet. Do you ask what is it now? Well, Internet’s obsession with coconut goes back in time from coconut water to coconut oil and now it’s coconut embryos. That’s right!
Peppa Foodie, a popular food blogger shared a video on which the coconut embryo is shown as popular street food in the alleys of Chennai.
The video shows the vendor hacking the sprouting coconut and retrieving the fleshy globe of the ‘embryo.’ These coconut embryos are then displayed inside the coconut itself.
Coconut embryos are also known as sprouting coconuts are soft and spongy. They are found inside mature coconuts. When the coconut is ready to sprout leaves, this formation takes place on the inside. The ‘embryo’ is actually a cotyledon and it is generally eaten raw.
Coconut embryo is rich in antioxidants and nutrients. It supports immune system health and is known for its antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-parasite properties. It is also a natural source of quick energy.
