Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has said that the positivity rate in the district has dropped less than 10 per cent as a result of the complete lockdown imposed in 40 gram panchayats of the district.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said that houses with positive cases are being sealed down ensuring isolation of the cases. While 3 to 4 thousand samples are being tested daily.

“Complete lockdown would be imposed from June 9 to June 13 in 16 gram panchayats in the district that have more than 50 positive cases,” he added.

“The number of calls for hospital beds has reduced in the past week. Of the 1,200 oxygenated beds, only 300 have been used. The district administration is also focusing on oxygen production,” Jagadeesha said.

“In the wake of the possibility of children becoming vulnerable to the third wave of the pandemic, the district has already convened with child healthcare experts. Donations, CSR funds and government aid are being used in preparations to treat children. Already 3,500 children in the district have tested positive for COVID-19. Special COVID Care Centre for children would be opened,” he said.
