Bengaluru: A private hospital in Bengaluru allegedly refused to release a 70-year-old COVID-19 patient’s body over unpaid medical bills.
The woman, identified as Maqbool Jaan died of Covid-19 on Friday, June 11.
The hospital said that the family can take the body if they paid ₹1,30,253 for pharmacy consumables, not covered under the Karnataka government’s scheme, out of the total bill of ₹3,67,753. The family was poor and even Jaan’s son was handicapped and did not have a job, thereby they were unable to pay the dues.
The body was released later after intervention by BBMP officials.
