Chikmagalur: Sanchari Vijay, an actor who started out as a theatre artist from Sanchari, a culture centre and the unique theatre passed away on Tuesday, June 15.

Born on July 17, 1983, in Chikmagalur district’s Kadur, Vijay was an Indian theatre and film actor who primarily worked in Kannada cinema, in addition to having worked in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films.

Vijay made his debut in 2011 in a Kannada film Rangappa Hogbitna. It was followed by a minor role in Rama Rama Raghu Rama. He received recognition for his performance in Dasavala and was later cast in Oggarane in 2014 as lead actor, then subsequently in Harivu.

Vijay’s portrayal of a transgender in Naanu Avanalla…Avaluthe won him a National Film Award for Best Actor in 2016. With the award win, Vijay became the third actor after M. V. Vasudeva Rao and Charuhasan to win the National Award for Best Actor for performing in a Kannada film.

Sanchari’s greatest qualities were that he was patient and persistent. He always wanted to be challenged. These qualities saw him through the difficult years.

The young man from Kadur, full of dreams, had come a long way. And he was ready to start a new phase in his journey. Alas, no one could have predicted that the journey would end so soon and suddenly.

His fans will miss him. But at least they have his films to revisit and watch one of the finest actors of our time.
