Mangaluru: Three booked for trying to extort money posing as MCC officials; One arrested

Mangaluru: Three persons have been booked by Police officials for an attempt to extort money from a garment shop in Mangaluru on Wednesday posing as officials of Mangaluru City Corporation.
The arrested accused is identified as Deepak Rajesh Coelho (45). Police officials are searching for the two other accused persons.
It is said that the trio tried to shoot a video and take photographs of a garment shop, located on the first floor of a commercial complex, off Ganapati High School Road claiming that the shop was open in violation of lockdown guidelines.
They demanded Rs 50,000 from the owner and warned of action by the MCC. After negotiations, the trio settled for Rs 10,000.
Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said that the accused have been booked for extortion and impersonation and the owner of the garment shop has also been booked under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act for keeping the shop open in violation of lockdown guidelines.
