Karnataka govt issues draft rules on transgender reservation in jobs

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued the draft rules amending Rule 9 of the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules that now provides 1 per cent reservation for transgender in jobs.
The amended rule now makes all jobs offered under the general, SC and ST quota to reserve 1 per cent jobs for transgenders.
If the 1 per cent vacancies for transgender remain unfilled then the recruitment agency can fill the posts with men or women candidates from that category.
The amendment comes as a result of an NGO filing a PIL in the High Court seeking reservation in jobs for transgenders under Section 2(K) of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
