A New York woman received over 150 parcels from e-commerce platform Amazon though she had not placed any order for them.
When the parcels were initially delivered to her house, the woman Jillian Cannan assumed that her business partner had placed an order for few things for their studio. Upon opening the parcels she found that it contained mask brackets.
The woman contacted Amazon to inform them about the mistake as the boxes began to pile up at her doorstep so they could take back the parcels. However, Amazon executives informed her that since she was the official recipient of the order, they could not take back the parcels.
“When I first started receiving the packages, I called Amazon to try and give them back, but they explained to me that they were officially mine to keep since they had been delivered to my home,” NBC News quoted Cannan as saying.
In a Facebook post, Cannan stated that she started thinking of it as a scam or someone trying to clear out their warehouse but since all the packages contained mask brackets she felt it was a honest mistake.
The packages then started coming more frequently and from multiple carriers, including UPS and the postal service. While each package was addressed to Cannan’s home, no return address was marked on them. She then began searching the tracking numbers and scanning barcodes to understand what was going on.
Finally, in a respite for Ms Cannan, Amazon was able to trace the original owner. However, Amazon told Cannan that she would have to keep the items already delivered or those that were in transit.
Faced with the task of what to do with thousands of mask brackets, Cannan decided to use the brackets to create DIY mask kits for patients at the local children’s hospital.
The story also made it to Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show.
