Mangaluru cluster for STRIVE ready; 3 entities in State to provide skill-based training

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru cluster for the implementation of the STRIVE scheme is ready with the end-stage approval process now underway.
The Central government had selected 19 industrial clusters across the country for the scheme.
STRIVE (Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement) is a Central government project with funding from the World Bank implemented through institutions representing industries for skill-based training of the youth.
In the final phase of cluster selection 3 clusters were selected in the State – Electronic City Cluster in Bengaluru, Automobile Cluster in Bidar and a ‘mixed cluster in Mangaluru represented by the Canara Industries Association.
The selected cluster will receive Rs 1 crore based on achievement which should be utilized for apprenticeship training and skills training.
In the Mangaluru cluster, skills such as fitter, electrician, welder, motor vehicle mechanic and programming and system courses will be offered with 15 per cent seat reserved for women.
“Both ITI-trained and non-trained people interested in learning skills can get training under this program. Our Association is pleased to be one of the 19 industry clusters in the country that have been selected for the STRIVE project. The final stage selection process is underway and the training is expected to be finalized by next month,” said Ajit Kamath, president of the Canara Industries Association.
