Bengaluru: Cited to be the first of its kind, a 45-year-old doctor was diagnosed with both black fungus and green fungus in Bengaluru.
It is said that Dr Karthikeyan R underwent an endoscopic surgery through his nose on June 15, 2021, where the fungal infection was spotted in his sinus area.
He was admitted to the hospital after experiencing pain in the right side of the face, numbness on the face and persistent headaches.
After the samples were sent to histopathology (the diagnosis and study of disease in tissues), the differently-colored crystals were seen. It also revealed signs of both black and green fungal infections.
The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 24 and was under home quarantine.
