Kasargod: AKM Ashraf, the MLA from Manjeshwar, has said that there are no plans to change the names of villages in the district from Kannada to Malayalam and such report spread on social media are false.
Ashraf stated on his Facebook account that he sought a clarification from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal assistant and the Deputy Commissioner of the district and both stated that there is no such proposal being considered.
He added that the confusion regarding the issue might have arisen from the misspelt names of villages in some ration cards due to software issues.
HD Kumaraswamy and Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had issued statements recently on the issue and requested Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to preserve linguistic harmony by not changing the names of villages.
