Bengaluru: Police recently arrested former BBMP corporator Rekha Kadiresh’s sister-in-law Mala and her son Arul, the alleged kingpins in her murder.

The role of Mala and her son Arul in hiring Peter and his associates for the murder was proven with sufficient evidence.

Mala is the elder sister of Rekha’s husband, Kadiresh, a former corporator who was murdered in 2018. Mala had problems with Rekha for several years. Mala’s aspiration to field her daughter or daughter-in-law in the upcoming BBMP election added fuel to her hatred, as she thought it would be impossible to field them if Rekha is alive.

Determined to clear any hindrance for her family’s political future, Mala, along with her son Arul, conspired for Rekha’s murder months ago.

The murder plot was hatched inside the jail by Arul who was arrested for robbery in the month of March last year.

It is said that Mala had requested Rekha to help her arrange bail for his son, but she refused and also threatened to expose their drug mafia.

Angered by this, Arul befriended several rowdy sheeters in jail and planned to kill Rekha. In the month of November, Arul was released and they along with  Peter, Stephen, Surya, Ajay, Purushottam, Captain alias Senthil alias Ubalan hatched a plot to kill Rekha.

The mastermind of the case was ‘Captain’ alias Senthil, he also prepared a blueprint for the murder. It is said that Senthil and  Kadiresh were friends and Senthil blamed Rekha for his murder. He is currently absconding.

After the murder on Thursday morning, Except Mala and Arul all the other accused had a meeting. They then sought shelter in the houses of rowdy sheeters.

Further investigation is underway.
