Like father, like son: Jyotiraditya Scindia gets Civil Aviation Ministry

New Delhi:  Jyotiraditya Scindia, the BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, has been given charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Scindia is among the prominent new faces that have been inducted into the Modi cabinet. He switched from Congress to the BJP on March 11 last year.

The 50-year-old leader was Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Union Minister of State for Commerce & Communications in the earlier UPA government.

Scindia has been rewarded with the civil aviation portfolio nearly 30 years after his father Madhavrao Scindia held the same minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government from 1991 to 1993.

While his father faced the challenges of liberalization during his tenure, for Junior Scindia, taking charge of aviation as the world grapples with the Covid-19 pandemic will be equally, if not less, momentous.
