Mangaluru: Forest and Kannada and Culture Minister Arvind Limbavali said that a comprehensive proposal would be submitted to the Central government soon to add the Tulu language to Schedule 8 of the constitution.
“Previous proposal to the Centre was returned because it was not complete. Previous governments too did not pursue the issue. A discussion has already been held with the officials of Kannada and Culture Department. A comprehensive report will be sent soon,” he said after the visit to the Pilikula Nisargadhama on Friday.
“There is no intention of forcibly relocating tribal people living in environmentally sensitive forests and hilly areas. But efforts to persuade them will be made. If they wish to stay in the forests then they will be provided with all basic facilities. Many have already agreed to relocate to cities so they are being resettled. We will hold a meeting with officials of the Department of Social Welfare before implementing the environmental plan here,” he added.
