Ramnagar: In a horrific incident, a group of miscreants chopped off the right leg and right hand of an RTI activist in full public view at Tavarkere, off Magadi Road here on Thursday.
The RTI activist, Venkatesh has been hospitalised and is said to be out of danger.
He was reportedly assaulted by five persons, who arrived on a motorbike.
The assailants assaulted Venkatesh severing his right hand and leg in what is suspected to be a revenge attack for exposing corruption in public projects.
The assailants fled the scene after Venkatesh’s screams drew passersby. A profusely bleeding Venkatesh was later rushed to a hospital.
Venkatesh had been filing RTI applications seeking information on various departments of the State government.
Ramnagar SP Girish has formed three special teams to probe the matter. The police maintained that they are also looking into the angle of rivalry and personal enmity.
