Bengaluru: Karnataka on Thursday approved the setting up of gaushalas or cow shelters across the state at a total cost of Rs 15 crore in the first phase, as per the state’s anti-cattle slaughter law.
Basvaraj Bommai, Karnataka’s Minister for Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs said that additional funds will be released depending on the progress of the work. Also, more such schemes will be announced in the upcoming budget to help reduce the burden of maintaining cattles.
The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2020 was passed in December last year. The law provides for jail terms of three to five years and fines ranging from Rs 50,000-Rs 10 lakh.
