Karnataka High Court directed Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to plant 4,000 trees to compensate for those to be felled for the Nagavara-Gottigere metro route’s construction.
The direction opens up chances for the route to be laid, as the project was put on hold due to the possible environmental damage.
The court also told BMRCL to further nourish the trees and report to the court about the action taken on the issue.
However, Senior advocate Uday Holla, who argued on behalf of BMRCL, said that due to the halt in the construction, the BMRCL was going through losses and as per the directions of the tree officer of the BBMP forest department BMRCL has agreed to plant 3,500 trees.
