Rains shatter coastal K’taka; Red Alert issued for July 19, 20

Mangaluru/Udupi: Heavy rains have continued to lash the coastal districts of the State over the last few days causing extensive damages to houses and farms while one person died after falling into a ditch in Vitla.

Vasanth Naik (40), a resident of the Kasaba village at Vitla was the deceased.

Many low lying areas in and around Mangaluru faced waterlogging. A house was damaged near Jappinamogaru while some vehicles parked at an interlock factory near the Bikampadi industrial area were stuck in the mud.

More than 50 areca trees on the slope near the road at Allampuri Cross at BC Road were destroyed.

The overflowing Kumaradhara river inundated the bathing ghats near Kukke Subramanya along with partially submerging the changing rooms and toilets.

River water also entered Kamalashile temple and is only a few feet away from entering the temple’s sanctum sanctorum.

In Dakshina Kannada district 3 houses completely and 9 houses were partially destroyed. While in neighbouring Udupi district 8 houses were partially destroyed.

Thi weather pattern will be continuing for some days now as the IMD has issued Red Alert for the twin districts for Monday and Tuesday.
