Karnataka’s first MRF unit to come up in Udupi district

Udupi: The first of the four pilot Material Recovery Facility (MRF) units to be set up in the State will come up in the district soon.
The MRF unit is a complementary solid and liquid resource management (SLRM) system whereby plastic, paper, iron, thermocol, clothings, footwear, etc disposed of in dry and wet waste are sorted out.
The setting up of pilot projects of the MRF units are being planned at Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Ramanagar and Bellary districts.
The first of it is being set up at Udupi district’s Nitte gram panchayat at 10,000 square feet area. While the second one will be set up at DK’s Ganjimatha in the next 8 months.
Initially, the Nitte MRF will process dry waste from Kaup and Karkala taluks.
The MRF units will include baling machines where all types of non-recyclable dry wastes will be shredded while recyclable dry wastes will be shipped to recycling plants and cement factories, where they will be used for various purposes.
