Bengaluru: 3-year-old boy swallows Ganesh idol; doctors successful in removing it

Bengaluru: A three-year-old boy was saved following immediate medical intervention in Bengaluru after he swallowed an around 5 cm long Ganesh idol.

The child developed pain in the upper chest and difficulty in swallowing saliva.

The child was rushed to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road and initially, Chest and neck X-ray was done, which confirmed the location and type of foreign body.

On Friday doctors removed the idol. He was taken to the endoscopy suite within one hour and under anesthesia, the foreign body was safely removed.

Pediatric Gastroenterologist Dr Srikanth KP said that the idol could’ve caused an injury in the esophagus, including an infection in the chest.
