Kundapura: The multi-crore rupees underground drainage (UGD) works here, going on for the past few years, is being further delayed due to land acquisition problems.
The land acquisition process for the works began in 2010. Later when grants from the Centre was cancelled the State government came in for the land acquisition.
In 2014, the town council pledged to give land for STP and wet well construction within six months. Accordingly, the tenders were processed and the order was issued in November 2015. Work began in May 2016, but the town council had not handed over land for the works.
Meanwhile, the contractors were issued notices twice for halting the works but they replied that without the availability of land they cannot continue the works.
Engineers from Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board had arrived recently and checked the problems and also held meeting with the officials and members of the town council.
