Hassan: In a heinous act, more than 60 monkeys were poisoned, packed in gunny bags, and thrown away in Chowdanahalli village of Sakleshpur.

As per sources, more than 60 monkeys were poisoned, stuffed in gunny bags, beaten, and thrown on the roadside near Chowdanahalli by some miscreants. The police could rescue 14 monkeys from the lot, while around 46 died due to poisoning.

The incident came to light when the passersby were curious to see gunny bags lying on the roadside, however, they were shocked to see what was inside when they opened them.

Some of the villagers said that the monkeys could have been assaulted after being stuffed in gunny bags. The few that were alive were gasping for breath and were unable to move.

After receiving the information senior forest officials visited the spot and have begun an investigation.

They have also taken the necessary steps to bury the dead monkeys. Preliminary reports suggest the monkeys were poisoned, police said.

Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda also termed the incident as an absolutely heinous act and shared the video.

“In an absolutely heinous act, more than 60 monkeys were poisoned, tied in bags, and thrown on Sakleshpur Begur Crossroad in Hassan District, Karnataka,” his tweet read.
